About me
Maya Hsu (She/ Her)
Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor
I am warm. I am bold. I am thoughtful.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Washington and my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from The Wright Institute. I also have a background in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies and Disability Studies.
Over the last eight years I’ve gained experience volunteering on crisis lines, working as a college mental health educator, assisting with Psychological research, counseling families in the foster care system, and providing therapy for adolescents and teens.
I identify as a queer, non-disabled, cisgender woman of Chinese and Korean descent, an artist and musician, an avid journaler, and a passionate sunset watcher.
Who I work with
I provide individual therapy for adults and teens (14+), and dyadic therapy for partners, couples, friends, or family members.
Issues I am especially experienced and interested in include: social anxiety, intergenerational trauma, and grief.
I particularly welcome women, queer and non-binary people, and people of color, and prioritize sliding scale spots for clients with marginalized identities.

What sessions with me are like:
About my practice
My practice is heavily infused with compassion, mindfulness, and relationality. I care a great deal about the quality of our relationship because of how much research indicates that psychotherapeutic relationship strength predicts better outcomes. I encourage honest feedback about how the therapy process is going for you, especially when it feels scary.
I also rely on the wisdom of the body to guide our work, and support my clients to build awareness of the way emotion physically manifests and expresses itself.
I am a firm advocate of equality and inclusion of all kinds. I am queer-, poly-, kink-, and sex work-affirming. I don’t shy away from conversations about class, gender, and race, and welcome feelings about the more insidious and overlooked systems of oppression, like ableism, ageism, and fatphobia. I strive to be ever-increasingly culturally humble and informed.
My approach to counseling is influenced by many different theories and modalities:
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Internal Family Systems
Narrative therapy
Gestalt therapy
Existential therapy
Attachment theory
Feminist therapy
Client-centered therapy
Relational therapy
Somatic therapy
Expressive arts therapy
Drama therapy
Ecotherapy
Trauma-informed practice
I create a unique blend of these different schools of thought, tailored to each individual, in order to best support you in finding alignment amongst your goals, values, and relationships.
